Grange-Over-Sands Railway Station
This photo was taken as a bracketed set of three exposures at 3pm on the 28th February 2026 and later developed with On1 Photo RAW.
Development
The dynamic range of the scene was huge, with the sun being in the frame, and I needed all three exposures, -3, -1 and +1 EV to develop the image.
The other issue with this photo is the crazy geometry. I've taken this shot many times before, and at such a wide-angle field of view, it's always difficult to get the rooflines level. As a consequence of using lots of horizontal keystone correction, I lost some content on the right of the frame but achieved reasonably realistic geometry. I then cropped in to balance out what I had left at my favourite 16 x 10 aspect ratio.
Maybe I'll try a narrower angle of view next time. But here with ultra-wide-angle and more content in the frame, at least I had plenty of options in post production.
I spent some time cloning out unwanted clutter from the platform, together with quite a lot of dodging and burning to emphasise lines and features.
I made use of Photo RAW's excellent depth and luminance masking on several of the local adjustments and effects filters including dynamic contrast and glow.
Grange-Over-Sands
Gill and I have taken mostly winter holidays at Grange-Over-Sands, because it's one of the only accessible Caravan Club sites that are open at that time of year.
The promenade is the main venue for photo opportunities, and we usually always spend one of our days visiting and walking it. On other days, we travel further into the Lake District to Ambleside and other locations - weather depending.
It was quite cold on this occasion, and Gill was in pain with what we think is sciatica, so we did the station and a short walk on the promenade before setting off back to the caravan site.
I'm quite pleased with this shot having managed successfully conquer the weird geometry.
